We are just getting started. At present, Reform UK does not yet have any Councillors on Rother District Council.
Why does this matter? For many years, Rother District Council has been run by the self-named ‘Rother Alliance’. The ‘Alliance’ consists of a patchwork of Liberal Democrats and Conservatives Councillors, who together have little coherent direction and had numerous battles for leadership, which sadly has caused years of mismanagement. Indeed, the Council itself has admitted to multiple failures, and that its services have faltered. Worst still, scandals and disastrous investment decisions, costly legal and planning defeats, numerous upheld Council ombudsman complaints, and a revolving door of staff departures has led to a chronic instability in many resident facing roles. Meanwhile, Rother taxpayers continue to see wasteful spending, incomplete vanity projects, and very little accountability for the situation.
We reject the idea that this is acceptable. We believe that local government should be run cleanly, efficiently, and transparently, not as a playground for local career politicians.
Reform UK in Rother believe there is a real opportunity to do things very differently. Reform UK will bring common sense, accountability, and proper financial responsibility to local government. We plan to stand candidates whenever by-elections occur, giving residents the chance to vote for genuine change.
Why Reform UK Brings a Better Alternative
Reform stands for common sense, tough oversight, and a refusal to accept “this is just how things are.” We demand that every pound spent is justified, that any procurement is open, and that Councillors report back regularly to the people. In places where Reform has won power, we’ve launched “efficiency audits” to root out deadweight spending and restore trust. We will seek to bring that same discipline and transparency to Rother.
We believe in delivering great, effective public services, in putting power closer to communities – empowering people rather than bureaucracies, and applying common sense structural reform to Council processes.
Our Plan – Starting with By-Elections
We are gearing up to stand well known, strong, principled local Reform candidates in Rother whenever by-elections arise. Each candidate will carry our promise of integrity, local accountability, and real service to residents.
Even without sitting councillors, Reform is building presence, recruiting local volunteers, and supporting political development at grassroots level.
If you believe in Reform, if you are tired of how things have been done, and want to bring a real difference to Rother, then we want to hear from you. Find out more about Being a Candidate.
