We are just getting started. At present, Reform UK does not yet have any Councillors on East Sussex County Council.
Why does this matter?
East Sussex County Council is responsible for the services that touch residents’ lives most directly: schools and education, highways, social care, libraries, and major transport infrastructure. Yet instead of focusing on these vital areas, the Council has been paralysed by poor leadership, a lack of accountability, and misplaced priorities.
Most strikingly, East Sussex County Council delayed elections in favour of pursuing a devolution deal, a process driven by political insiders, not residents. This means voters were denied their chance to have their say, while councillors protected their own positions. At the same time, core services are under strain, with repeated failures in children’s services and social care flagged by watchdogs, deteriorating roads, and an increasing burden on taxpayers without results to show for it.
Residents deserve better. Local government should not be about backroom deals, bureaucratic experiments, or career politicians clinging to office. It should be about delivering services efficiently, listening to communities, and ensuring that every pound is spent wisely.
Why Reform UK Brings a Better Alternative
Reform UK stands for common sense, accountability, and value for money. We reject waste, vanity projects, and endless bureaucracy. We believe in tough oversight and open procurement. Councillors should be directly answerable to residents, not shielded by political carve-ups.
Where Reform has gained ground, we’ve pushed for efficiency audits to cut deadweight spending and restore confidence in local government. In East Sussex, we would bring that same approach — stripping away bureaucracy, investing in frontline services, and putting people before political games.
We also believe in localism. Power should rest closer to communities, not be handed upwards into yet another expensive layer of devolution that distances decision-making from residents.
Our Plan – Starting with By-Elections
Reform UK will stand strong, principled local candidates in East Sussex whenever by-elections occur. Each candidate will stand on our promise of integrity, accountability, and delivering practical results for the people of East Sussex.
Even without sitting councillors today, we are growing our presence, recruiting volunteers, and preparing candidates who will challenge the failed status quo.
If you believe in Reform, if you are tired of being ignored while your services decline, and want to bring real change to East Sussex, then we want to hear from you. Find out more about Being a Candidate.
